About ISSCT

The International Society of Sugar Cane Technologists (ISSCT) is an association of scientists, technologists, managers, institutions and companies/corporations concerned with the technical advancement of the cane sugar industry and its co-products. 

Global Society

The ISSCT is the oldest and largest organization of sugar technologists worldwide.

The ISSCT runs activities that bring together the world’s sugar cane technologists.

Publications & Proceedings

The ISSCT has published the proceedings of all its Congresses since the first one in 1924 in Hawaii.

ISSCT Mission

The Society is committed to the sustainable advancement of the sugar cane industries of the world and associated communities, through promoting innovative research, development and the adoption of technology, and by sharing the knowledge among its members for their professional development. 

 

Congresses & other activities

The ISSCT has been in existence for 99 years during which it has organized 31 Congresses, usually at 3-year intervals.

The last Congress was held in Hyderabad, India from 20 to 23 February 2023. The next XXXII Congress, the Centennial one, is scheduled for August 2025 in Cali, Colombia.

Workshops are also held in-between congresses for discussions among specialists on key issues affecting the industry.

The hosting of ISSCT Congresses and Workshops is decided by the Council on the recommendation of the Executive, following applications from Affiliated members. Application Forms for Pre-Congress Tour, Congress, Post-Congress Tour and Workshops are available on this website.

Governance

The ISSCT is governed by an Executive of 10 members elected every three-years by the Council who meet at congresses and which consists of representatives of the various Affiliated Societies (29). The Executive appoints a Technical Program Committee (TPC) that is responsible for monitoring the technical activities, including workshops and the congress program and proceedings.

Republication of Congress papers in associated journals

ISSCT currently has agreements with three journals where specific Congress papers might be republished. The primary method of selecting papers is a request by the editors of the journals for agreement to publish specific papers. All initial contact is through the ISSCT Editor.
